Women's Rights songs

HOUSE OF THE EPSTEIN CRIMES (Tune: HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN)

https://youtu.be/jJUBVnpPgMA

There is a house in New Mexico

in sage and pinyon pines

It was the ruin of many young girls:

The house of the Epstein crimes

The crystal chandeliers shone bright

upon the polished floors

But dread and darkness chilled the air,

and wept behind each door

No lullaby in that wide land,

to calm your frightened cries

No mamma’s care, no daddy’s hand

Just empty gilded lies

O daughters, hurt so deeply

now living with the pain,

you were so young, you could not know

you’d never be the same

Coyotes wail where children prayed

for help

but no one heard

Now Bondi locked their truths away

The victims now are smeared

We must expose this cover-up

of wealthy powerful men,

their cruelties, depravities,

in the house of the Epstein sins

TAKE YOUR BANS OFF MY BODY (Tune: Take Me Out to the Ball Game)

 https://youtu.be/x6nSbVHZ0Dk

Take your bans off my body

Leave my uterus alone

You have no right to say “yea” or “nay”

It’s my body and my final say!

And if I choose birth or abortion,

I’ll decide in my way

So keep out! - out! -  out of my choice

You can have no say!

I don’t mess with your prostate,

I won’t try to castrate

I have respect for your privacy:

Li’l blue pills and your sex fantasies

What if you could find yourself pregnant?

You would holler, “No way!”

So keep out! - out! - out of my choice!

You can have no say!

So keep out! - out! -

out of my choice!

You can have no say!

SAFETY FOR WOMEN (Tune: Jesus Loves the Little Children)

Every woman should be safe

from brutality and rape

safe from every form of cruelty by males

Every sister, daughter, wife

has a right to peace in life

Men who don't respect that right should be in jail!

Sing for the safety of the women

all the women on the earth

Brown or yellow black or white

must be safe by day and night

Let's respect and honor every woman's worth!

WOMEN POWER! (Tune: Oh, Susannah)

Now we sing for women’s unity,

we raise our voices loud

to support our sisters everywhere:

we’re women and we’re proud!

We are sisters if our skin is black

or white or red or brown

We stand against all forms of hate

and we will not back down

Women power!  The patriarchy’s done!

We unite in solidarity, for women’s time has come!

The assaults our autonomy

are more than forcing birth

Men think they should control us

and our lives do not have worth

We’ll fight them in the courts

and in the streets and at the polls

They’ll never shut us up

or force us back to days of old

Women power!   The patriarchy’s done!

We unite in solidarity  for women’s time has come!

Of the myth of male supremacy

you will be disabused

Don’t mess around with women’s rights,

or we are not amused

We are fearless and impassioned

and invincible and strong

And we demand our equal rights,

we’ve waited far too long

Women power!   The patriarchy’s done!

We unite in solidarity  for women’s time has come!

Women power!  We will not be ignored

We’re a force that must be reckoned with -

We’re women: HEAR US ROAR!!

BATTLE HYMN OF WOMEN (Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic)

BATTLE HYMN OF WOMEN

Tune: Battle Hymn of the Republic

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the fire of women's rage,

kept smoldering for centuries, now flaming in this age

We won’t be owned as property, we will not be enslaved

For women’s time has come!

Now women-hating men have taken power across the land

They’ve legalized misogyny, just like the Taliban

They want complete control of us, but now we take a stand

Their tyranny be damned!

Rise up, women!  Join together!

Solidarity forever!

We shall not retreat – not ever!

For women’s time has come!

The patriarchy’s over now, we claim our rightful power

We’ll build a new society, with caring at its core,

and never raise our children to be fodder for men’s wars

For women’s time has come!

So join the revolution to regain our civil rights

We’re many millions strong and we will win when we unite

We’ll stop the persecution, though it’s gonna be a fight

For women’s time has come!

Rise up, women!  Join together!

Solidarity forever!

We shall not retreat – not ever!

For women’s time has come!

IT AIN’T NECESSARILY SO (Original tune by Gershwin)

The freedoms and rights that we know

They ain’t necessarily so

We always expected our rights were respected

It ain’t necessarily so

For years they were packing the courts

to make it a crime to abort

& all the Republicans just like to drub women:

crushing our rights is a sport

Alito said, “Nix privacy!”

He likes to see brutality

Beer Brett is a fool, Clarence Thomas a tool

They seem to love theocracy

And judge Amy Coat-hanger Barrett

was rammed through regardless of merit

‘cause she was selected to betray her sex

She’s a partisan hack like the rest

We’re under attack - this is war!

Our lives are what we’re fighting for!

What we need this hour are women in power

to show all the sexists the door!

THE LAWS THEY ARE A-CHANGING (Tune: The Times They Are A-Changing)

Come gather ‘round people, we want you to hear

about losing the freedoms we’ve come to hold dear

Religious Supremes work to turn back the years

And the harm that they do is wide-ranging

Now it’s time for our protests to shift into gear

For the laws they are a-changing!

Now five right-wing zealots presume to decree

that our laws must be based on defunct history

1789 is the year that they see

as the golden age they’re re-creating:

back before civil rights when just rich men were free

But it’s they who should be changing!

Young women who grew up with freedoms don’t know

how savage it gets under right-wing control

But we who lived through it, our battle scars show:

there’s a reason for all of this raging

There isn’t a bottom to how low they’ll go

and the laws, they are a-changing!

FREEDOM UNDER ASSAULT (Tune: Marine Corps Hymn)

They’re intent on killing free-e-doms,

and it’s more than Roe v. Wade

They want state control of women

and they want us all afraid

They assault female autonomy

and it’s more than forcing birth

‘cause they see us as their property

and our lives do not have worth

When they talk about the “right to life,”

they mean fetuses unborn

After birth some babies have no rights

and the mother’s life is scorned

If they cared about life’s ”sanctity”

they’d end massacres in schools,

end the homelessness and poverty -

But instead they’re just plain cruel

We must start a revolution

to reclaim our civil rights

We will stop this persecution

And it’s gonna be a fight

We will not live in the Handmaid’s Tale

We refuse to be abused

We will not be terrorized by males

We’ll be free to live and choose!

WOMEN OF THE WORLD UNITE (Tune: Ode To Joy, Beethoven)

Step by step and ever forward

though the road be dark and long

Keep on marching ever forward

Women of the world, be strong!

For our sisters ev-er-y-where

we lift up our voices, make them ring

Women of the world together

For the rights of all, we sing

We shall end the pain and sorrow,

drive the dark of fear away

Help our sisters claim their power

We begin anew today

It’s our time to claim victory

together we join to light the night!

Open doors ‘till all are free

Oh, women of the world unite!

Step by step and ever forward

Onward ‘til we’ve won the fight

Arm in arm, we’re strong together

women of the world unite!
